“Coming Home to Our Bodies”: Behind the Vision of Soma Women’s Wellbeing
Quietly nestled in the heart of Dickson, Soma Women’s Wellbeing has quickly become a go-to for women seeking grounded, holistic care. We connected with founder Anna to learn more about the story behind Soma, the intention driving the space, and what’s next for this beautiful wellness hub.
What inspired the creation of Soma Women’s Wellbeing?
Soma was born from Anna’s deep desire to create a safe, inclusive space where women could gather, heal, and reconnect. At its core is the belief that wellbeing begins when we come home to our bodies.
The name “Soma” itself means body and Anna believes that when we truly connect with our physical selves, we unlock deeper emotional, spiritual, and community connection.
She also felt strongly about establishing a woman-centred clinic, recognising that so much of modern healthcare has been shaped by research and systems designed around male bodies. Even practices like yoga were originally developed for men. At Soma, every practitioner holds a deep interest in women’s bodies, hearts, and minds and it shows.
What’s the most rewarding part of running Soma?
For Anna, it’s the women who walk through the doors and say, “Thank you, I’ve been looking for something like this in Canberra for so long.”
Soma offers a growing range of therapies and classes tailored specifically to women, and there’s something powerful about seeing that vision realised, especially with a team of compassionate, skilled, and authentic women who are deeply aligned in purpose.
On a personal level, Anna is also a practitioner who supports women overcoming trauma and long-held emotional patterns. Witnessing a client go from feeling stuck or unsafe to feeling alive and free is the kind of transformation that continues to inspire her every day.
What’s one thing you wish more mums knew?
Well, apart from the fact that we're here! We've only been open since April so people are still discovering us. But truly, I wish more mums knew that stress and overwhelm are not automatically part of motherhood. There are valid reasons for tiredness, exhaustion, high emotions and other physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, and between us at Soma we can help with many of them.
What’s something exciting coming up?
One of the most innovative offerings is community acupuncture. With 20 years of experience in women’s health, Soma’s acupuncturist treats a wide range of hormonal and reproductive issues. From fertility and period pain to endometriosis, PCOS, and perimenopause.
To make regular treatments more affordable and accessible, Anna has introduced a weekly group acupuncture session on Wednesday afternoons. After an initial consult, women can drop in, lie down on a yoga mat in Soma’s calming group space, and receive their personalised treatment, all for just $40 (before private health).
Any special offers?
Soma is currently offering a beautifully curated Hormone Reset Package, in partnership with The Seed Cycle.
For just $310 (valued at $550), the package includes:
Tailored 1:1 sessions
Access to group classes
Nutritional meal plans
One month of The Seed Cycle
Designed for women who feel out of sync, depleted, or "not quite themselves," this package supports gentle healing and hormonal balance with minimal effort and maximum support.
As Anna puts it:
“When your energy is steady, when you wake up rested, when your body feels like your ally again, everything shifts. And hormones sit at the heart of that.”
Whether you're navigating motherhood, recovering from burnout, or simply seeking a deeper connection with yourself, Soma Women’s Wellbeing offers a space to slow down, breathe deeply, and feel supported.
