Tell us a bit about yourself?

I'm Skye, I’m 32 living in Googong with my husband and two children daughter, Nyah 7 1/2 and son Kawhi, 3 in June.

What were you doing before babies?

I worked at a childcare centre as a pre-school teacher. I returned to full time work when my daughter was 4 months old opening my own Family daycare which I have been doing for 7 years.

How did you come to be a mum?

My first was planned after about 6 months of actively trying I fell pregnant. Labour was terrible (literally had all the drugs ) and vomited the whole time, my daughter arrived in the posterior position (yep lots of stitches) 13 days over due (was not induced either). We were very content with having just one child but after mum guilt set in (the reality that I almost had a school age child) and lots of peer pressure we fell pregnant with my son. He arrived in the world 1 week early completely pain relief free, with no idea I was in labour.

What has your feeding journey been like?

With my daughter I went in with no feeding exceptions after two days of trying to BF and nurses forcing my daughter on with not a drop coming out I sent my husband down to Woolies to get formula, my daughter smashed down 40 mls and fell asleep for over 4 hours and never cried like that again. Looking back I feel I definitely wasn’t supported with feeding, never being offered a pump or formula. I was discharged as soon as the nurses knew I was formula feeding. My daughter however, decided to only take her formula in half amount having 2 hour feeds for a good 4 months, she formula feed till 12months. With my second I went in telling them I wasn’t BF at all was and 100% formula feeding again. Straight after birth, my son was forced upon me while I was completely out of it after giving birth in less then a hour after arriving at hospital. I looked down at a blue, new born that I had almost suffocated, due to being in shock. I told the nurses I didn’t want to continue attempting to feed after that and was met with, let’s just say, very very rude comments from the doctor on duty, which lucky at that point I felt a bit more with it and spoke my mind. I 100% believe in feed is best and take my hat off to those who choose to breast feed. I just feel like there shouldn’t be so much pressure on women or by telling them it’s the healthiest options or their kids will get sick as there immunity wouldn’t be as good as those that Breast feed (which I call B/S)

What has sleep been like in your house?

First born was amazing and slept through the night from 4 months maybe earlier. My second started sleeping through the night after he had his tonsils removed in October. We co-slept with both our kids youngest is still in with us.

The hardest bits…

Juggling, working full time, school runs and after school activities with a cranky 2 year old.

The best bits…

Seeing them grow all the amazing little things they do on a daily.

How do you make time for yourself?

It’s is very rare, as my job means not only my own children are with me but I have other people children with me daily. However, I love catching up with my GFs (kid free ), daily baths and coffee are things I do for me time.

What’s next for you and your family?

Hoping to finally get some family holidays in. We have been keen to take the children to the Philippines to show them where my husband grow up.

If you could talk to your pre baby/kid self, what advice would you give?

Enjoy the silence
