Gabriella Milos

Tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Gabriella Milos but everyone calls me Gab. I am the proud mother of Leonardo (Leo) who is 14 months old and has a personality larger than life

What were you doing before babies?

Before babies, I was just honestly living my life as a 20 something year old! Working in the APS, having drinks with friends and sleeping in!

How did you come to be a mum?

Leo was a surprise, but the most amazing surprise!

What has your feeding journey been like?

I had an extremely positive feeding experience, he latched straight away after being born and was breastfed exclusively for 8 months (not including a little bit of solids from about 5 months). After that I started incorporating formula which he took to very good as well. At about 9 months he started to ween himself off the boob and went onto bottles completely from about 10 months. I'm so blessed that it was all such a positive experience because I know others don't have the same success!

What has sleep been like in your house?

Sleep is still really tough in our house! We have good nights and bad nights. When he was a newborn he primarily slept either in my arms or in my bed. He's much better than he was back then but we do still struggle quite a bit, I'm a bit of a whatever works kinda mum so if he isn't sleeping i just pop him in my bed lol

The hardest bits…

The hardest bit was recently having Covid and needing to quarantine in for nearly 1 month just with me and Leo at home. This was such a challenge for me and for Leo too because he is such an active, social kid so being stuck inside with just me for so long was really hard. I struggled a lot too with not being able to have a moment to myself (he got so clingy he would even cry at me in the bathroom trying to shower haha), although it was super challenging it was also quite nice to spend so much time together, it started to feel like mat leave all over again.

The best bits…

Watching him grow and change (while being so scary) is the best thing I could ever imagine. He is such a funny little kid and has so much personality, I see myself so much in him too which is absolutely surreal.

How do you make time for you?

Leo goes to day care full time during the week so I don't find myself needing heaps of time for myself, but on the occasion I want to catch up with friends or go to dinner or for a drink etc my sisters are always happy to watch Leo for a little bit.

What’s next for you and your family?

I'm not too sure what is next for Leo and I, we will probably move to a bigger place in the next few months and apart from that just keep doing what we're doing. Life's good!

A piece of advice for our readers?

Go easy on yourself, some days are harder than others but as long as your child is happy and healthy you're doing something right!
